We are a group of local Breakfast Point residents and dog owners looking to foster a vibrant and inclusive community where both residents and their furry companions can thrive.
We're advocating for the establishment of a designated off leash dog area within Breakfast Point where our beloved pets can run, play and socialise, while also allowing residents to connect and build a stronger community.
Our goal is to work collaboratively with the Breakfast Point Community Association and City of Canada Bay to recognise the importance of this initiative and take concrete steps towards actioning change.
As passionate pet owners and community members, we recognise the numerous benefits that a dedicated dog exercise area can bring:
Promoting Responsible Pet Ownership: Providing a safe and controlled space for dogs to exercise encourages responsible pet ownership and helps build a stronger bond between owners and their pets.
Enhancing Community Well-being: A designated area for dogs fosters social interaction among residents. It becomes a hub for neighbours to connect, share experiences, and form lasting friendships.
Improving Canine Health: Regular exercise is essential for dogs' physical and mental well-being. Having a specific area for dogs to run, play and socialise can contribute to healthier and happier pets. This in turn also means they are more relaxed and less prone to boredom, a common trigger for excessive barking.
Companion Dogs for Well-being: They can be of immense benefit to all, particularly the aged and those living alone. Research indicates that owning a dog can reduce feelings of loneliness. Owning a dog encourages regular physical activity, companionship, and are natural conversation starters facilitating social interactions for greater wellbeing.
Building Community: Dog ownership can bring a range of benefits to the community, enriching the lives of both owners and non-owners alike. Creating a safe space where people can come together to connect and interact builds a stronger community for all.
Currently the closest off-leash dog exercise area for Breakfast Point residents is out of area and not fit-for-purpose. Kendall Reserve - Click here for details.
There is no suitable off leash area available for dog owners living in our community.
Thus far the CA has chosen a combative, non-collaborative approach with zero outcome for the Breakfast Point community. See here for their response.
