Dog ownership is well and truely a reality in our community.
We believe that both the Breakfast Point Community Association and City of Canada Bay are obliged to provide residents a safe, grassed, off-leash dog exercise area.
The Companion Animals Act 1998 (NSW govt link here) states "each council must provide at least one off-leash area where dogs can be exercised off-leash during certain hours."
The closest existing dog exercise area, Kendall Reserve is both out of area for Breakfast Point residents, and its state is unfit for purpose.
Neglecting to establish designated off-leash areas contributes to problems such as increased conflicts in shared spaces and unsafe, uncontrolled exercise.
By vilifying dog owners rather than working collaboratively to find solutions, the CA fosters division and alienation. All residents deserve an inclusive, balanced approach to community space management.
