Rather than work to find a solution, the Breakfast Point Community Association (CA) has chosen to demonise owners and their dogs.
The CA is arguably failing in its duty to serve the community fairly and responsibly.
Dog ownership is well and truely a reality in our community. We believe the CA has an obligation to provide appropriate spaces for its residents to exercise their pets safely and without vilification. Neglecting to establish designated off-leash areas contributes to problems such as increased conflicts in shared spaces and unsafe, uncontrolled exercise.
By vilifying dog owners rather than working collaboratively to find solutions, the CA fosters division and alienation. All residents deserve an inclusive, balanced approach to community space management.
Self proclaimed as "The Official Publication of the Breakfast Point Community Association DP 270347", the Breakfast Pointer is a regular update to residents, produced by the Community Association and its committee.
Below are recent public communications made by the CA to the Breakfast Point community.
These articles clearly demonstrate the CA is aware of the challenge for dog owners within the Breakfast Point community. However, true leadership is not to promote division by encouraging fellow residents to contact council or use apps to lodge a complaint.
We ask, how is the threat of fines servicing the community?
If an intersection was identified as a blackspot for traffic accidents, the answer for the planning authority is not to place blame on the drivers, but rather approach objectively with a view to improving and making the intersection safer. That is true leadership.
It is time the CA play an active and positive role in finding a solution for the community it is required to serve.
